Digital Twin Capture
Photogrammetry has existed for a good century, and has originally been used as a measuring tool. It has been used later on to survey lands and analyze geographical / topological data, or used for reverse engineering, and more recently in the immersive space, with the acceptance of game engine based platforms to create content.
Photogrammetry models are a fascinating asset as they can have multiple end uses like in AR, immersive / spatial experiences (it opens the door to interactivity and 6 Degree Of Freedom abilities), can be combined with volumetric capture. It is also a great tool for virtual productions, that can be used as backdrops for scenes, that can be tracked live with camera tracking systems like NCAM (later bought by Zeiss).
Photogrammetry is also simply a unique way to document cultural heritage.
Creating hyper realistic digital twin models from photography has been a bit of a learning curve, as getting a high fidelity model of a physical object is pretty complex, but it has been a fascinating journey for Sébastien, as it takes 2× highly technical elements core of his life (photography and VR 360 capture) into one field.
This fascination led Sébastien to partner with The Mercantile Agency and Rory Mitchell, to produce one of the first AR experiences, blending photo-real photogrammetry assets with a volumetric captured actor, and create one of the first AR / immersive narratives.
Interactive 3D Models
La Croix — Pamplemousse
Beverage can captured using cross-polarisation photography techniques to eliminate surface reflections, resulting in an exceptionally detailed and clean 3D model. Demonstrates AR experience application for CPG brands, allowing consumers to interact with the product in their own space.
